It is hard to believe that the ski season is just around the corner!

Directors have already started working through the details essential to organizing a great season.  If you have the opportunity to thank one of your volunteer Directors please do so they deserve it!

We’re looking forward to the Annual Ski Swap, the Sounder, Women on Skis, Jack- rabbit Program, Adult Instruction, and Special Olympics.  Also, we will be hosting a Masters Ski event in February.

We are, once again, anticipating a great turnout for our Jackrabbit Program. If you would like to volunteer for an amazing time every Saturday morning, see the Jackrabbit information included in this newsletter.

As usual at this time of the year helpers are required for getting trails prepared for the season. Look for where you can volunteer in the body of the newsletter.

Our Club lottery will be concluded in February 2008. If you can help out by selling some tickets send an e-mail to ski@vianet.ca and we will hand deliver the tickets requested.

Let the snow dance begin!

                CAUTION

Deer hunting season runs from November 5 to 17 this year.  Particularly if you brush trails or hike on them mark these dates on your calendar.

Please be advised.  As a result of concern for the safety of everyone, all trails are closed during deer hunting season.

Preparing for the new Ski Season

Trails:

Regular inspections of our main trails have been carried out all summer using the new Kobota RTV.  This unit replaced our ATV that was stolen a few years ago.  The RTV has room for 2 side by side and an ample carrier box for chainsaws and other equipment.  The trail inspections indicate only a few fallen trees along with the usual bumper crop blackberry canes and other annual growth.  We are planning only a few trail upgrades as well as pulling out some of the logs from trees cut along the Wolf trail.  If these plans work out we may have some additional firewood available for sale this fall

Greg Mason is again organizing work crews to clean the trails over the next month.  If you are available to help any weekend after Thanksgiving please give Greg a call at 746-2204.

The main performance trails will be cleaned using the Club’s tractor and ‘brush hog’.  Most of the handwork will be along the edges of the performance trails: Partridge, Lynx Jackrabbit and along the classic trails: Cotton Trail, Otter, Bear, Beaver and Fox, where it is not possible to take the tractor.

Brushers.  When using a chain saw take care to avoid Trypholenonme syndrome.

                   Membership

Enclosed is the Club Membership form.  Please complete it as soon as possible.  If you pay before December 1, 2007 there is a reduced membership fee. Fees can be mailed directly to the Club, or paid in person, on Registration Day/Ski Swap/ Jackrabbit Signup: DECEMBER 1st .

This year there are minor changes to the fee structure to provide equity between single and couples memberships.  The board of directors determined that our current fees strike an appropriate balance between meeting financial needs and being affordable.

Our club relies, significantly, on donations.  These donations form a large part of how we keep the club affordable.  Please consider making a donation as part of your membership. Check the appropriate area on the application.  Our club has charitable status and we will be happy to issue a tax receipt.

If you plan on skiing more than 8 times, it is cost effective to join the club.  A membership will: save you money, provide you with unlimited skiing on regularly groomed trails that are open 7 days per week. There is: no need to pay daily passes, a heated burrow and waxing room, organized social events, programs and races for various ages & abilities, reduced fees for courses & clinics, a regular informative newsletter and voting rights at the annual general meeting.  How can anyone say no?

When completing your application be sure to check the column that asks you to volunteer for: Jackrabbits, Sounder Ski Tour, etc.

Also you must submit a waiver signed by all members over the age of 17.  Your tags and tax receipt for donations will be provided at the club when you go for your first ski.

Also, please provide the municipality/township where your residence or second home is located.  This information is needed for us to successfully apply to local municipalities for financial support.

See you on the Trails!
